We all know that drinking water is good for our health, but did you know that it can actually help you drop those unwanted pounds? In our last blog, our medical weight loss professionals in Arlington, VA talked about how water can help you lose weight. Today, we’ll but talking about when and how to drink water to lose weight:
#1. Drink water before you eat.
Water is actually an appetite suppressant, and if you drink a glass of water a half an hour before each of your meals, it’ll make you feel fuller, which will help you eat less. Studies have shown that drinking water before meals can save you an average of 75 calories for every meal.
#2. Replace sugary, high-calorie beverages.
“Don’t drink your calories” is a common rule among dieters and fitness experts, and it definitely rings true. Soda, juice, energy drinks, fancy coffee and many other drinks come with a lot of sugar and calories. Replacing these sugary, high-calorie beverages with water can save you hundreds of calories every single day.
#3. Drink water right when you wake up.
The human body is 72 percent water, which means that we need to be drinking water all throughout the day to stay properly hydrated. After an eight-hour period without water, you need to replenish your supply by drinking at least 16 ounces right when you wake up. This will help to kickstart your metabolism, flush out unwanted toxins and fuel your brain.
#4. Drink ice water.
When you drink ice-cold water, it needs to be warmed up, which means that your body will have to work harder than it would if you were to drink warmer water. This will help to boost your metabolism so that you can burn more calories.
#5. Make sure that you are getting plenty of water.
If you want to lose weight drinking water, you need to follow the eight by eight rule (drink eight eight-ounce glasses per day), which adds up to be 64 ounces. To encourage yourself to drink more, try sparkling water, flavored water or infuse your own water with fruit!
